So f****** what the difference is Madonna has a label backing her, Janet doesn’t she has her own label so basically Janet is her own backing minus BMG her parent company but still she has her own label so she is the first artist on her Rhythmn Nation record label to have a number 1 album and that is very impressive many of these artists are slaves to these record companies with the execs telling them what to do and only go home with a small percentage. But anywho I’ve read alot of comments and so far there are a coupl trolls on here acting extremely pressed and screaming about how Madonna sold more.

Michael & Janet help change the way black artists were seen, heard, marketed and promoted FOREVER…they help set a new standard by showing the music industry that more than 3 singles could be released from one album and multiple songs from one album could go #1 and Top 10…they basically created the EVENT music video, with multiple videos released from a single album…Control helped create New Jack Swing…Janet signed not one, but TWO huge record-breaking music contracts…I could go on and on chile…so congrats to the beautiful Miss Jackson…you’re a sweetheart…and slaying for 4 decades! #1 is the ONLY place for you…Īll I have to say is congrats to Tamar on debut in the top 5. Of course, Jackson is long past the point where such comparisons are an issue. Whether riding a blithe groove on Take Me Away or pleading that "hate will only divide" on The Great Forever, she wields the shivery vibrato that emphasizes her shared DNA with a fuller, more fluid voice. Jackson's voice sounds a little duskier now, and at its most quavering encourages comparisons to Michael's even more than it did in her youth. There are affecting surprises, though, such as the folky, poignant Lessons Learned and exuberance, from the brightly infectious title track to Take Me Away, with its ebullient waves of synth and sudden bursts of electric guitar. Jackson brings on the funk for the breathless BURNITUP!, with Missy Elliott, and the joyful retro-soul workout Gon' B Alright. Broken Hearts Heal teases us with jazz accents but wears out its crisp, easy groove. The sleepy After You Fall suggests Jackson's old hit Again without the melodic vibrancy. Those aren't qualities you'd necessarily associate with Jackson, and some of the more contemplative tunes on Unbreakable can seem static.
The young woman intent on liberating herself and the world is still socially and spiritually conscious, but she has evolved into a more settled, reflective artist. Happily, Unbreakable (three out of four stars), out Friday, reunites her with Jam and Lewis and provides a more cohesive, convincing showcase for Jackson's gifts and her growth.
